The text, entirely in Dutch, is one of Viruly’s key pre–Second World War pacifist publications. (“You, air-raid wardens!”)., and “Om het heil van ons land” (“For the welfare of our country”). Viruly analyses Dutch defence strategy, the concept of the “Vesting Holland” redoubt, and the vulnerability of northern cities to air attack, building a vivid hypothetical scenario in which a friendly power bombards Groningen to illustrate how quickly modern air war would overwhelm a small neutral state.
