By conducting field research at 120 locations across Kagoshima Prefecture (including the Satsuma Peninsula, Ōsumi Peninsula, Koshiki Islands, Tanegashima, Yakushima, Amami Ōshima, and Tokunoshima), the book rediscovers the rich diversity of Kagoshima speech—its vocabulary and pronunciations—which differ from region to region within the prefecture.
